| Chicago Hands Washington 5-4 Defeat | Columbia Stadium was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Chicago Chiefs and Washington Eagles.
Chicago starter Mel Haynes pitched effectively against the Washington Eagles at Columbia Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-4. Angel Lopez picked up the save, his 6th.
Chicago used the bat of Pete Casstevens to get the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Chiefs ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Haynes said.
Chicago is 6th in the Federal Association with a record of 56-68.
