Grays Outlast Knights, 12-10
The Oakland Grays weathered a fine game by Los Angeles shortstop Barney Smith to upend the Knights, 12-10, at Oakland Grays Baseball Park. Smith was 4 for 5 with 4 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Cy Sullivan picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-1. Chick Pappalardo was tagged with the loss. Jack Goff closed the door for Oakland, picking up his 4th save of the year.

The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Tom Gibson came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Los Angeles pitcher Chick Pappalardo, he hit a 2-2 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Oakland on top, 11-10.

"Winning makes the heart grow fonder -- for more winning," said Gibson, cracking a smile.

With the win, Oakland upped its record to 32-19.
