Houston got a big-time effort from pitcher Ed Whetzel, but it wasn't enough to keep the Los Angeles Knights from winning the game, 2-1. Whetzel threw 8.2 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. The 5th-place Knights raised their record to 29-33.

The most significant at-bat for Los Angeles came with runners on 1st and 3rd in the bottom of the ninth. Knights shortstop Elmer Hutchins hit a run-scoring double to win the game.

"I like the grit of this ballclub," Hutchins said.
