| Gothams Get Past St. Louis for 5-4 Win | New York and St. Louis duked it out and the Gothams came out victorious.
Getting a good performance from shortstop Cecil LaBonte, the New York Gothams defeated the St. Louis Pioneers, 5-4. LaBonte went 3 for 3 with a triple, 2 singles, and 2 walks for the Gothams. Steve Groves got the save, his 19th in 21 chances.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Red Johnson came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing St. Louis pitcher Russ Peeples, he hit a 2-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 5-4.
"I still think this team can play even better," LaBonte told the New York Daily News.
The win for the Gothams raised their record to 83-48.
