The Kyoto Owls got a magnificent performance from pitcher Itsuya Takahashi, who muffled the Sapporo offense en route to a tight 2-1 Owls win at Owls Park. Takahashi, now 9-7, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The Eastern League-leading Owls have a record of 42-38.

The Owls relied on center fielder Shoyo Miyazawa for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the ninth, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal.

"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Kyoto manager Kazuyuki Kamiichi said.
