The Kyoto Owls weathered an outstanding game by Sapporo center fielder Hidetsugu Yoshida to topple the Bears, 7-6. Yoshida was 3-4 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Kyoto improves to 52-47 with the win. They lead their division by 2½ games.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Owls had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the fifth, when pitcher Tomohito Kimura hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Eichiro Ueno and made the score 3-2, Owls. Kimura threw 7.0 innings allowing 4 runs.

"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Kimura said.
