Stars Edge Falcons, 4-3 | The first-place Nagasaki Stars took on the Fukuoka Falcons in front of a spirited crowd.
Fukuoka got a big-time effort from pitcher Norito Yamazaki, but it wasn't enough to keep the Nagasaki Stars from winning the game, 4-3. Yamazaki threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Shiro Sawada snagged the win in relief. In 3.1 innings, the right-hander allowed no runs on no hits. He's now 2-3 on the season.
Shiro Sawada had a critical at-bat with one out in the bottom of the sixth for Nagasaki. He came through with a 2-run single to put Nagasaki in front, 4-3.
"It was a solid team effort," said Sawada after the game.
Nagasaki leads the Western League by 5 games. | |
