| Sheppard Hurls Shutout Sunday, September 3rd, 1933 Sam Sheppard bent a little, but he didn't break against the Washington Eagles. The St. Louis Pioneers pitcher hurled a 5-hit 12-0 shutout in a fine performance, surrendering 4 walks and tallying 4 strikeouts.
"Sam is good at getting out of jams," Pioneers manager George Sparkman told reporters after the game. "He's almost more effective when he gets guys on base or gets behind in the count, because he uses your aggressiveness against you."
In 32 starts this season Sheppard has rung up a 16-11 record and a 3.39 ERA.
