Boston's Wood, Allen Award Winner
Sunday, October 24th , 1943
In the twilight of his career, Ed Wood has no intention of going anywhere anytime soon. The 35-year-old Minutemen starter hoisted up the Federal Association Allen Award earlier today, silencing critics who thought it was time for the "old man" to retire.

Wood crafted an ERA of 2.51 as he won 23 games, dropped 8, fanned 57 and gave up 79 walks in 280 innings of work.

He received 9 first place votes out of a possible 16. Ed Bowman of the New York Gothams finished second in voting with 5 first place votes, while Sam Sheppard of the St. Louis Pioneers finished third with 1 first place vote.
