Keystones Hitless Against Duke
Wednesday, September 20th , 1972
It was a terrific day for Dick Duke of the New York Gothams at Gotham Stadium. The left-hander stood out with a fantastic 2-0 no-hitter against the Philadelphia Keystones.

"I knew I had a no-no going in about the sixth inning when I noticed no one was talking to me anymore," he said, referring to the time-honored superstition of avoiding the pitcher so as not to jinx the no-hitter. "Don't let people fool you. Everybody on the field and in the ballpark knows what's happening. They just pretend they don't."

For the game, Duke totaled 3 walks and 6 strikeouts in a very strong outing.

"His mechanics were perfect, and I don't think he threw one bad pitch in the whole game," New York manager Charlie Foley said. "He was that good."

This season, Duke has a 17-7 mark in 33 starts with a 2.37 ERA. He has given up 170 hits in 231.2 innings, struck out 204 and issued 93 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .206 batting average against him.
